Madhavan (Mammootty), a simple village man who in childhood got bitten by the film bug, threw up his studies and finally ends up as 'Operator' Madhavan, who tours the countryside with his 16 mm projector and shows films at temple festivals and other public functions. Madhavan's family consist of his wife (Padmapriya) and a daughter (Sanusha). (Innocent) enacts the role of a priest. Madhavan comes across a six-year-old boy (Yash) who is displaced from his native Gujarat and separated from his family after the devastating earthquake. This boy was taken into a gang of beggars from where he manages to escape. Madhavan takes the boy home and cares for him, just like a son. He and his Family takes a fondness for the boy, later finding out that legally he cannot adopt the boy. The boy is taken away from Madhavan to a juvenile home and allegations of ill treatment is charged on Madhavan, but soon dismissed. The issue gets media coverage. Madhavan then goes to Gujarat with the boy in hopes of finding his family or adopting him. At the disaster camp in Gujarat Madhavan understands that the boys relatives are all most probably dead but due to legal hurdles, the boy must stay on in the hope that his real parents might be traced. The story starts with news of a hero, a tough cop called encounter Shankar being transferred to another town after cleaning up a town known for rowdism. He is transferred to a town in Anantapur which is ruled by a rowdy-sheeter and business man called Dhamu. Dhamu at present is building a power project which he calls it as his dream project. He takes the help of the environmental minister, a bureaucrat and a police inspector's help to get permissions illegally and also uses them to kill people whoever comes in his way of building the project. He dotes on his younger brother and his brother reciprocates his love by being protective about him and takes care of all the dirty work like extortion, killing for his brother. Hero comes to know of the villain killing a human rights officer who tried to expose the illegal methods and that the villain paid a bribe to politicians to get clearances for a factory that could wipe out villages surrounding the factory if proper care is not taken. Hero warns the villain that he will destroy his entire empire and all those people who were his partners. In Kolkata, prisoner Kathiresan "Kathir" (Vijay), a petty criminal, helps the police capture an escaping prisoner Vivek Banerjee (Tota Roy Chowdhury), but he himself escapes afterwards. He goes to Chennai and decides to escape to Bangkok with his friend and fellow-criminal Ravi (Sathish). However, he drops this plan after meeting and falling in love with Ankitha (Samantha Ruth Prabhu) at the airport, who dupes him into believing that she wants to marry him after realising that he is having a crush on her. Later, Kathiresan and Ravi notice a man who resembles Kathiresan named Jeevanandam "Jeeva", being shot by a group of thugs. They admit him to hospital, following which Kathiresan decides to impersonate the injured Jeevanandam to escape from the police. Under the name of his doppelg nger, Kathiresan and Ravi enter an old-age home run by Jeevanandam with the aim of collecting 25lakhs (which is meant for the inmates of the old-age home) for their Bangkok trip, until he learns about his doppelg nger's mission. Jeevanandam is a communist ideologue and a post-graduate in hydrology from the arid village of Thanoothu in Tirunelveli district who had discovered groundwater under some lands of the village which could be used as an irrigation source not only for the village, but for the entire Tirunelveli district and the neighbouring Thoothukudi district as well. But, an MNC owned by Chirag (Neil Nitin Mukesh) cheated the villagers into giving their lands for the construction of a factory. Jeevanandam was arrested by the police and the six villagers to convince the media for the release of Jeevanandham commit mass suicide. On learning of the plight of Jeevanandam and the villagers, Kathiresan decides to fight for their cause while still under the name of Jeevanandam. more»
