The film kicks off when Akshay, young IT professional from Delhi; only child of a single parent Suneel Narang embarks on a journey to get his father, a widower; married so to finally put an end to his prolonged loneliness. Co-incidentally in Jaipur, a vibrant young girl Poonam is on the same hunt to find a partner for her mother, Shoma; whom she's seen as a divorcee since childhood. They get in touch with each other through a matrimonial website named 'secondmarriage.com' and after initial denial of the idea by their parents they finally sail through and get they married. Poonam and Shoma then join Akshay and Suneel into a new adequate flat in Gurgaon and a distinguished family scenario arises for the four, filled with a new cook hailing from a rustic background, Bihaari and a north-eastern maid Flower. Suneel and Shoma are not at ease with each other to start with but gradually spark of romance start to fly off. Poonam and Akshay who'd become good friends from the word go and who themselves are lonely souls with bitter memories; are happy to discover a feeling which always eluded them - the joy of a family. Sound designer Geetali (new find Sukhada Yash) is in a live-in relationship with an aspiring filmmaker, Parth (Chinmay Mandlekar), who is frustrated because he has not been able to make much headway in his career. One day, Geetali's friend, Eric (Edward Sonnenblick), a student of anthropology, comes from abroad and expresses a desire to study spirituality. He wants to make a documentary film on the Pandharpur pilgrimage, so popular among Maharashtrians. The pilgrimage, also referred to as Waari, is a 240-km. walk from Alandi to Lord Vithal's abode on Pandharpur, and mythology has it that the journey is to be completed in 18 days. The pilgrimage also entails unfolding of one of the 18 chapters of the Dnyaneshwari each day of the journey. Parth takes up the offer to direct the film but since he is keen to make a mark in commercial cinema, he makes it clear that he would make a feature and not a documentary.Parth starts off with his skeletal crew along with lakhs of pilgrims in the Pandharpur pilgrimage. However, he often becomes irritable and also loses his temper when he feels, his crew members are not doing their best. There comes a stage when Parth decides to abandon the project because he gets a telephone call announcing that a producer was willing to sign him on as director for his (Parth's) dream project. Although he leaves the unit to return to Bombay so that he can take up the direction of his long-cherished project, he returns to his unit when he realises that abandoning the film as well as the pilgrimage would be wrong on his part. Lathika is a working single mother of a son named Jagadish. Her flashback reveals a happy life in her village with her widowed mother and her cousin Sreekumar, his parents -her uncle and aunt and their grandmother. Sreekumar leaves for the Gulf after a trip back home, and Lathika waits for the day of his return and their impending marriage. Arjunan, a close friend's brother on a fateful rainy day drives Lathika home in his car but the former can not control his feelings and hence rapes her. Lathika becomes pregnant. She moves to a big city to give birth to the child, and her mother passes away in the shock.Back to present, Lathika meets Arjunan, who is now her boss.
