Kunjoonjamma Thomas (Padmini) is a widow living in the village all by herself. People always make fun of her because she is grumpy and depressed due to the deaths of her husband and her only child. Children irritate her by ringing her door bell and running away. One day, her granddaughter Girly (Nadhiya Moidu), who she had never met, visits her. Initially, Kunjoonjamma does not like Girly, but they soon become close to each other. Kunjoonjamma takes down the door bell, saying to Girly that its only purpose was for Girly's return. Now that Girly is with her, she does not need it. Kunjoonjamma's neighbor, Sreekumar (Mohanlal), falls in love with Girly. One day, Sreekumar's friend, Alexi (Fazil), comes to his house and sees Girly. He identifies her as a girl missing from Delhi, and immediately informs her father (K. P. Ummer) about her whereabouts. Girly had run away from Delhi because she had a brain disease and does not have much time to live. She wanted to enjoy the rest of her life. When her father comes to take her back to Delhi for an urgent operation, she refuses to go, claiming that even the doctors are not sure whether the operation will be successful. Her grandmother mixes sleeping pills in soup and gives it to Girly, and her father takes her to Delhi while she is unconscious. The movie ends with the ambulance slowly fading away into the darkness. Sreekumar watches it leave, and when he turns away he sees Kunjoonjamma refixing the doorbell with the hope that Girly will return one day. more»

Madhavan (Mammootty), a simple village man who in childhood got bitten by the film bug, threw up his studies and finally ends up as 'Operator' Madhavan, who tours the countryside with his 16 mm projector and shows films at temple festivals and other public functions. Madhavan's family consist of his wife (Padmapriya) and a daughter (Sanusha). (Innocent) enacts the role of a priest. Madhavan comes across a six-year-old boy (Yash) who is displaced from his native Gujarat and separated from his family after the devastating earthquake. This boy was taken into a gang of beggars from where he manages to escape. Madhavan takes the boy home and cares for him, just like a son. He and his Family takes a fondness for the boy, later finding out that legally he cannot adopt the boy. The boy is taken away from Madhavan to a juvenile home and allegations of ill treatment is charged on Madhavan, but soon dismissed. The issue gets media coverage. Madhavan then goes to Gujarat with the boy in hopes of finding his family or adopting him. At the disaster camp in Gujarat Madhavan understands that the boys relatives are all most probably dead but due to legal hurdles, the boy must stay on in the hope that his real parents might be traced. "Anand Mohan (Mohan) works as a manager in a company owned by Pandurangam (Suthi Veerabhadra Rao). Padma (Ashwini) daughter of Pandurangam's brother Nagalingam (Nutan Prasad) stays in his house and goes to college. Anand falls in love with her. But he is afraid to reveal it to Pandurangam because of the fear of losing his job. Anand receives a letter from his friend Lakshmi Prasad (Naresh). The letter explains his problems because of losses in his business. Anand goes to the village and rescues him who is about to commit suicide. He brings him to the town in the hope of finding a job. Anand uses Lakshmi Prasad in various ways to convince Pandurangam of his love with Padma. Atlast Pandurangam comes to know about their love and agrees for their proposal. Lakshmi Prasad also loves a girl when he was in his village. He loses track of her when her family is migrated to some other city. Luckily Lakshmi Prasad finds her again. Nagalingam does not like the word 'Love'. So he opposes when his daughter proposes to marry Anand. This leads to conflict between the brothers and they split their property including their mother. She feels very bad about this. When she decided to live in a temple instead of witnessing the fight of her two sons, Anand's father (Kota Srinivasa Rao) takes her to his home. He advices his son to reunite their family because they split because of his love.
