"Kochukunju (Prithviraj) is the spoiled son of the Vadakkan Veettil family in Taliparamba, Kannur. He is the son of Kathreena (Ambika), who believes that his father David (Saikumar) has died (his life was actually spared by the killer sent by his brothers to kill him). Kochukunju is hated by everyone in his family because they want to divide the Vadakkan Veetil property and engage in some business and he is a barrier for them.It is revealed that Kochukunju knows the whereabouts of both his dad and Neelan, the killer who spared his dad. His dad promises him to return one day.All of his cousins hate him, except the one who comes to know about his honesty. The brother engages in a brawl in a hotel killing his opponent. He realizes that it is Kochukunju's hotel and he is not what he seems to be. Kochukunju is about to take the blame for his brother as he did in childhood but is stopped by his friend the Manager (Sudheesh), who takes the blame instead. Kochukunju fights for the manager in court. His brother comes home and confesses to his mother that he is not what he seems to be, and the tears she has shed for many years have not gone to waste as he turns out to be good. He also confesses to the theft he did years backHis mother and uncle (Vijayraghavan) trick him into going to a rehabilitation center, where he makes the owner and doctor drink. He says he doesn't need rehabilitation and will stop if his mother tells him so.In the jail, the Manager is beaten up by three rogues, leading to his hospitalization. He stops Kochukunju from retaliating.Helen, his fiancee, and cousin urges him to tell all, where the flashback of the three rogues is revealed. Bhai is a do-gooder for the people of Dubai, while his three sons are the rogues. Kochukunju once saves him in an accident and becomes his right hand. Bhai trusts him more than his sons, and he puts his wealth in Kochukunju's name, helped by his lawyer. The sons kill the father and put the blame on Kochukunju, who is spared after proving his innocence. The sons get jailed. Kochukunju is waiting for the day they come out and he can hand them their property. But they come out and kill the lawyer, and both Nandu and Kochukunju decide to kill them. He kills them and returns to Kerala.His brothers try to kill him by sending out a rogue, who is defeated, and the truth is brought out. They did it for the property. He tells them to take whatever they want, and that he does not need a penny, except for his mother and Helen.The day arrives when the property is divided, and a stranger buys their whole property. The person is a benaami and a real owner is a big person, who then comes out, i.e., David and his wife are shocked. He introduces himself, and everyone is shocked. He tells them he did not come for their money or wealth, although the only one with the right to it is Kochukunju. He reveals that Kochukunju is the real owner who bought all the property and is not the loser that they think he is. He had acted in front of them for this long but became a successful businessman.He also says that Kathreena's brothers sent out a man to kill him. She and her brothers ask for forgiveness.He comes to their room where his photo is displayed with a lit candle. Kochukunju is happy as his father is back now and, with his mother's permission, blows out the candle. The story is based on the Indian historical event during the 16th century. It narrates the victory of Viswanatha Nayak on his father to express his devotion towards Srikrishnadevaraya. Viswanatha Nayak (Krishna) is the son of Nagama Nayak (Sivaji Ganesan), a successful General of Srikrishnadevaraya (Krishnam Raju) of the Vijayanagara Empire. Chola King Veerasekhara Chola invades the Madurai Kingdom and deposed the Pandya King Chandrasekhara Pandyan who was under the protection of Srikrishnadevaraya. Due to this, an enraged Srikrishnadevaraya sends Nagama Nayak to aid Chandrasekhara Pandyan. Nagama Nayak suppresses Veerasekhara Chola and takes Madurai, but then suddenly he threw off his allegiance and declining to help Chandrasekhara Pandyan usurped the throne. So, Viswanatha Nayak volunteers to face his father in the battle ground. Nagama Nayak is defeated and the loyalty of Viswanatha Nayak is proven. Shivappa (Vijayaraghavan), an ex-mafia leader, now leads a retired life in the city suburbs running a stable. Though, retired, he has deep vengeance against Gowda, who had broken his leg, making him permanently disabled. Jayshankar longs his brother Ravishankar to join police. Ravi, currently working for Deccan Chronicle, a leading Bangalore daily, is also attempting for IPS. One day Jayashankar receives an information that a consignment belonging to Gowda is arriving the city. Along with Inspector Narayanan (Maniyan Pillai Raju), he tries to seize the trucks, but is shot killed by the goons. Ravishankar, who has just got a letter confirming his selection for IPS, reaches Jayashankar to inform the news, witnesses the brutal murder of his brother. Sandra is now running a few business offices of which Harishankar is the manager. Sandra agrees to help Ravi in his mission. She introduces him to Shivappa. Though initially reluctant, he agrees to provide money and weapons in the war against Gowda. The central government nominates confers IPS for Govindan, who is also promoted as the city commissioner. At a function organized to felicitate Govindan, Ravi intrudes along with Hari and insults him publicly. The sudden and violent reaction or Govindan is recorded and passed over to higher authorities, causing the suspension of Govindan. Ravi targets the establishments of Gowda. He along with Shivappa blackmails Nanjappa (Renji Panicker), the home minister and gets Gowda raided. The loss of finance enrages Gowda, who sends Chandra, his brother to finish out Ravishankar. But Chandra is killed by Ravi. Gowda kidnaps Hari and offers deal. Upon the demand of Gowda, Ravi arrives, but along with Shivappa and his mercenary power. Appukuttan Nair or 'Appu' (Mohanlal) is a struggling unemployed youth who arrives in Mumbai to meet his sister and brother-in-law (Augustine). His father has been falsely implicated in a bank fraud and wants to sell his ancestral property to pay towards the litigation. For that he needs his sister's approval, but is abused and turned away by his brother-in-law. Disappointed, Appu seeks out his old pal Nooruddin or 'Noor' (Sreenivasan), who is working in a fruit juice vending shop in Mumbai. Noor himself is a hapless uneducated youth working for his uncle Beeran (Mamukkoya), who is a treacherous money lender, with a hope to marry his daughter Maimoona. They plan to open a paint shop but need 1.25 lakh Rupees to rent a shop as prerequisite to get a bank loan. With no other way in sight, they swindle Beeran out of 1.25 lakh Rupees. Appukuttan then tries to get the loan sanctioned but he is rebuffed by a new Bank manager Varghese (Maniyanpilla Raju) who had taken charge by then. In a turn of events Appukkuttan happens to rescue a woman called Chandrika Varma or 'Chandra' (Sukanya) after a car accident, hospitalizing her. Chandra is the daughter of a wealthy businessman Udhaya Varma (Nedumudi Venu). Appukkuttan is mistaken by the hospital staff to be her husband, Alfred Fernandes or 'Alfie'. Soon her relatives including her father arrive and they too mistake him for Chandra's husband, because Chandra had eloped with Alfie, and no one among them had ever seen or talked to Alfie. Also it happened to be that Chandra was a major client of Appukkuttan's Bank Manager Varghese, who too mistook Appukkuttan for Chandra's husband, and was now eager to oblige him with the loan. Appukkuttan decides to masquerade as Alfie till he gets loan approval from the Bank Manager. Chandra lay bedridden paralysed unable to react, but with her cognition intact was able to witness all the commotions around her. Some of the relatives of Chandra were never convinced about Appukuttan from the outset. Beeran is also hot on Appukuttan's trail to retrieve his money. To make matters worse for Appukkuttan enters the second heroine Lekha (Pooja Batra), a close friend of Chandra and who is a medical graduate. She had talked to Alfie on the phone previously and is immediately suspicious about Appukkuttan. The relatives join with Lekha to find out the truth. Lekha and others play cat and mouse with Appukkuttan trying to uncover his veracity, with Appukkuttan staying ahead of the game for a while. Finally Lekha fortuitously comes to know the real story of Appukkuttan but she is moved by his plight and enamored by his openhearted nature. In the meantime Chandra revives from her paralysis but she too forgives Appukkuttan for everything; also she had developed a liking for him. But one of the jealous relatives of Chandra (Cochin Haneefa) manages to expose Appukkuttan before everyone. Then Chandra admits all the truth to everyone. Her was not in fact a car accident but was a suicide attempt after her fiance, the real Alfie, had betrayed her, and their marriage had never commenced. But she was now in love with Appukkuttan and hoped to marry him. Chandra recovers fully under the loving care of Appu and Lekha. But later Chandra discovers that Lekha was already in love with Appukkuttan, and had in fact given way for her as a favor to Chandra's father, to whom Lekha was like a second daughter. Chandra gracefully withdraws from her planned marriage with Appukkuttan, and Appukkuttan and Lekha are united together with everyone's hearty blessings. more»

Varghese (N. Govindan Kutty) is a planter who lives with his wife Elizabeth (Savitri) and daughter Beena (Sujatha) in the tea estates owned by him. Following his son's demise, Varghese starts drinking in his depression and entices his wife into it. Elizabeth becomes an alcoholic. Varghese dies and Elizabeth appoints Baby (Salam), who is her faithful servant Antony's (Abbas) son, as the tea estates manager. Baby and Beena are classmates. Baby is corrupt by nature, but Beena, who is in love with him, is confident of changing him. Elizabeth goes from bad to worse. In a drunken stupor she even gets into a physical relationship with Baby and becomes pregnant. Beena comes to know of this. Out of shame and repentance, Elizabeth commits suicide. Thilagam (Sobha) is a young girl from the village who comes to work as a servant in Venkatachalam's house. Her innocence draws Venkatachalam towards her and they get intimate. She becomes pregnant but Venkatachalam refuses her. Thilagam is driven out of Venkatachalam's house and gets support from Sanjeevi and Kasi (Hanumanthu), a person who is hard of hearing,also worked at Venkatachalam's house and has affection towards Thilagam. Sanjeevi provides Thilagam with lodging and requests Kasi to stay with her and look after her. Thilagam delivers a child. Months later, after Sanjeevi and Kasi appealed to his conscience, Venkatachalam repents and is ready to accept Thilagam, but she decides to live her life with Kasi, who took care of her during her pregnancy.
